David Scott b. 1758 PA ?... h/o Jane Ramsey

I noticed the vagueness of most all the dates surrounding David Scott (b. 1758), his wives, and some of his children on rootsweb.

Excluding the repeatedly copied and re-entered info, and often enough erroneous, found on the family sheets in rootsweb, has anyone who has worked on this David and Jane and their families found more reliable documentation proving death dates, burial locations, places they might have moved to, etc.

Most have given David's death year as 1799 in PA. Does anyone have definite proof of that? I'm just trying to establish what are facts and what are guesses or assumptions.

I am trying to find a particular David Scott who was b. 1750-1760 and was also married to a "Jane", but this particular David Scott likely died in Greenup Co, KY in 1830-1840 and not in PA. He may have been born in PA...I don't know.

Jane Ramsey Scott was supposedly widowed in 1799 in PA and moved next door to Greenup Co, KY in Fleming Co. with her Ramsey family

If there's proof that her husband did actually die in PA in 1799, then her deceased husband isn't the David Scott I'm searching for. If the researchers are wrong about his dying in PA in 1799, and he actually left PA in the late 1780s and moved to KY with Jane, then this might be the couple I'm looking for.

The problem is so many of the details for this family appears to have been guessed...which we all do when there's not much of a paper trail.

Needless to say, if I'm barking up the wrong tree, I need to move on.

Input is welcomed. Thanks!

Karen
