I too have Routledge ancestry in Hawick. Martha Routledge married a Hugh McFalls in Hawick in 1865.

She was the daughter of Robert Routledge and Elizabeth Johnston and was born in 1848. This was Elizabeth's second marriage and as far as I can make out Robert's first. It seems there was only one other Routledge child- Adam. They came from the Canonbie in Dumfries originally.

Now Routledge isn't that common a name. I can't believe there is not a link there somewhere. It's not inconceivable that Martha had an older brother John that I don't know about.

Further to that, I have Bell family from just up the road in Galashiels, where Agnes is a family name after an Agnes Fleurs some generations back.
