Riddell/Riddle

I am seeking information on my Riddell/ Riddle family. My gr gr gr grandfather,John Riddle was apparently born at or near Cavers about 1787.As far as we know, he moved north to Sutherland in the1820's as a shepherd and remained there for the rest of his life.He married Janet Stavart/Stevat/Stewart and they had several children born in the north. My particular interest is John's eldest son George, also a shepherd, born about 1820. He appears to be older than the other children, and may well be the child of a different mother/wife.George's New Zealand death certificate, andmost of the other records we have, refer to him having been born in "Wales,England" rather than in Scotland, which seems unusual or unlikely.George married Jane Douglas(s)in Scotland in 1853 and migrated not long afterwards with his two eldest children.

Any information about this family and their roots would be very welcome.

Judith Gray (nee Dyer)
