Dear Bob,

In a message I have just posted I have listed Tollbar licensees for the Roxburgh area in 1843. Three Amoses are listed:

Crailing Jane Amos
Mackside John Amos
Swinnie John Amos

While this can't be the same John Amos as your one born in 1821, perhaps these locations may be worth following up!
Crailing is in Crailing parish
Mackside is in Southdean parish
Swinnie is in Jedburgh parish
