I am looking for any descendant of George Campbell Stillie, born in Scotland on November 4, 1839 and was christened on November 9, 1839. George was the son of James Stillie and Isabella Renwick Dickson. George enlisted at 21 years of age in the U. S. Navy on July 22, 1861 as an ordinary seaman for a period of one year at Buffalo, New York and served during the American Civil War aboard the United States Navy’s USS “North Carolina”, USS “Valley City”, USS “Fernandina” and USS “Roebuck”. Married Helen Mitchell on August 6, 1868 in Newlands, Peebles, Scotland; and later took her to Australia with him. George Campbell Stillie died in the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum in Moorabbin Shire, County of Bourke, of Paralysis and Heart Failure on 29th April 29, 1919 at 80 years of age; and was buried May 1st 1919 in Cheltenham Cemetery in an unmarked grave. In order to acquire a headstone for him from the American Veterans Administration I need to make contact with any direct or indirect descendant. Please contact James Gray at jamesmgray@bigpond.com.
