Hey Alex- thanks for responding so quickly! Yes the 1861 census is my gggrandfather William and gggrandmother Margaret. Margaret's obit which I found in Iowa states that she was born in Edinburg on 12-18-1824. had her born in Ireland as do many of the censuses. My ggrandfather James was born in Hamilton according to his obit, not Airdire but his sibs Margaret and William were born there. It does seem that this is the same family in the 1871 census ( the ages names and ages match up)and is also the year they immigrated to the US, altho James came the year before and I don't know when William and his family arrived. In the 1880 US census Margaret, William and his wife Cecila (Irving) Harper and their daughter Margaret along with James and Jemima are listed. Jemima is listed as her daughter, not granddaughter, which never made sense and her obit confirms this listing Margaret as the only daughter but I don't know who her parents were. Those who immigrated (on the Assyria) were both Margarets, Adam, Thomas, Daniel and Jemima so I assumed that my gggrandfather father William was deceased before then. I do have a copy of the marriage banns for William and Margaret due to the kindness of others as I find the Scotland's People website very confusing to navigate, I suppose because I have no knowledge of Scottish infrastructure (parishes and the like). The censuses list William's birthplace as Ireland but I am suspect of that based on my experience with Margaret. With all the information I have been able to collect I am missing William's birthplace and date, any other family for him and anything about his death. Likewise I have no other information on Margaret's family. I also have no living family to help- in this search so ZI really appreciate other people taking the time to respond and try to help. If you find any other information that would be helpful please respond or send it to my email thanks you so much-
