I note there is no suggestion of Inverness.

Flesher was the older word for Butcher, particularly in Scotland.

===============================

There is an Andrew Watt Birth recorded in 1905 in GLASGOW CITY in SP above.

It could be that the Andrew Watt 1891 above, had died; and that his name was re-used in the same generation. This happened with my grandfather, he was the second bearer in the one generation, due to the death of the earlier child.

It appears that her mother died between 1867 and 1871.

Again I have not confidently located Christina's Birth as being prior to 1855, falls in to the much less complete Old Parish Register era; but this looks like Agne's Birth on the LDS Family Search site-

www.familysearch.org

Agnes Leckie
Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950

birth

20 Oct 1860

CENTRAL DISTRICT,GLASGOW,LANARK,SCOTLAND

parentJohn Leckie, Janet Murray

I would recommend that you subscribe to Scotland's People and VIEW the Scanned IMAGE of Agnes's Birth Record, as it will normally include the Date and Location of the Marriage of her parents.

===============================

I have checked the Travel & Migration list on FMP for Andrew; but again unfortunately, no positive results.

===============================

You may be able to get more information about the shop from the MITCHELL Library in Glasgow-

http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/virtualmitchell/

Google StreetView has a good image of the tenement block at 57 Nithsdale Road. Judging by the window groupings, the flats are a fair size.

You should also locate either the Marriage of Andrew and Christina or the Birth of at least one of their children, to help locate that Marriage.

In turn, that Marriage Record should have the names of their respective parents, giving more solid leads.

1855 is an important year in Scottish Family History, when Statutory Registration of BMDs was introduced, so that some thing like 99% of those Events in the following years to "present" are on record.

Prior to 1855, we are reliant on the far-from-complete Old Parish Registers, incomplete in both a record quantity sense; and also that they have very few details in each record. BUT that is basically all that is available.

In part, the early Census Records supplement the OPRs and are in themselves more complete - but sketchier.

=========================

Also try to get as much as possible from the Canadian Registration Archives, to establish a solid trail back to Scotland.

Arrivals, Marriages, Births, Deaths etc.

For any Scottish BMD Event from any other source, try to confirm on Scotland's People.

Alex Dow
