Dear Heather
For informstion on Scottish people (particularly the HERONS and their various connecting families (by blood and by marriage) arriving in Jamaica in the late 1700s to 1800s, you may contact Tony Fisher and Richard Mirchell, who also write on Genforum (Scotland and Jamaica).
I don't know about the McAlpines and other Scottish families arriving in St. Vincent, as this island is a distance away from Jamaica, but also in the Caribbean. What I do know is that several Scottish immigrants came to Jamaica via St. Vincent, Barbados, St. Kitts, and Panama during the 1770s-1800s.
If you need more information you may contact the Registrar General's Department, Twinkenham Park, Spanish Town, Jamaica (West Indies) regarding Scottish families who migrated to the island.
All the best
Bev.
