Afternoon Beverley
It looks as though you found That Birth on the LDS Family Search site-
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=truehttp://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true
24. Robert Gilmore - International Genealogical Index / BI
Gender: Male Birth: About 1746 Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
================================
Using Scotland's People, which gives access to the Official BMD Records for Scotland, there are no RG Births in 1746, the nearest being in 1741 - which is also included in the LDS FS site-
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
The LDS FS result is-

Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record.
On SP, you should find a Scanned IMAGE of the Original Record, which may or may NOT have extra information.
The only way to find out is to VIEW it on SP.
================================
I can't find any siblings for Robert; but interestingly there are three births around the same decade to Robert Gilmour and an Elizabeth Miller, all in Edinburgh.
As Walker and Miller could look similar in the old spidery writing, it may be worth VIEWing at least one IMAGE on SP to see if the Transcription is correct.
================================
There is a female GILMOUR Birth with father Robert Gilmour - uncertain mother, in 1779.
Again VIEWing the Scanned IMAGE should give the child's name; and may or may NOT have the mother's names - the latter are all too frequently NOT recorded.
================================
On SP, there is a Robert Gilmore Marriage between 1775 and 1780, in Edinburgh - again VIEW the IMAGE for full details.
================================
I note that there are several Submissions on the LDS FS site regarding the John Balcomb to Ellen/Helen Gilmore marriage.
You would have to contact the Submitter to find out the sources used.
===============================
It is most unlikely that Migrations Lists for leaving Scotland would be found, as there was no centralisation etc of them back then in Scotland or the UK. (the only central records cover 1890 to 1960; and even those have many omissions.)
There may be something in the North American records of the period, as Arrivals implied another "mouth to feed" etc.
Whether any such records ever existed and if they did, survived the two major wars over there, Independence the Civil, is a moot point.
