For all of the above, if you go to Scotland's People run on behalf of the Registrar General of Scotland, you will be able to VIEW and Download Scanned IMAGEs of the Original Records.
These will normally have additional details such as the names of the parents of the Bride and Groom on the Marriage Record, taking you back another generation.
Also on the SP site, there are the various Scottish Censuses, which generally are not available elsewhere.

Regarding his Death, although obviously the names are differewnt, there is this Death on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site-
Name: MENHINICK, JAMES GORDON
Initials: J G
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Able Seaman
Regiment/Service: Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve
Unit Text: Hawke Bn. R.N. Div.
Date of Death: 20/06/1915
Service No: London Z/951
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 8 to 15.
Memorial: HELLES MEMORIAL
The inclusion of GORDON is suggestive of Scotland, as is Petrie and possibly surprisingly, Morgan.

There is some information about the KATOOMBA on this site-

I note that the name is frequently spelt "Menhenick" and so may not come up on a general search on the Web, if using the "i" spelling.
Have you tried the Public Libraries in Melbourne, family history societies etc?
Many of the latter compile lists of burials in their areas.
Asdditionally, have you tried to locate likely relatives in the Melbourne area?
Try tracing his widow etc.
