Tom,
I used the index on the LDS site www.familysearch.org
The birth I referred to was input by an individual, rather than taken directly from the parish record of births. However I am going to Edinburgh tomorrow, so I'll look up the original document for you.
John's wifes name appears on different documents as Robison, Robertson, Robartson (Thomas had a brother Alexander, a brother John, and a brother, also Thomas, born 1802, who I assume died in infancy). It was common practice to name children after previously deceased children.
If you access www.familysearch.organd enter the names John Walker and Mary Robertson, and click on marriage, you will see that they married in the village of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire on the 2nd December 1785. Therefore there will be other children I haven't found yet ! Again, this marriage has been input by an individual subscriber, rather than taken directly from the parish record of marriages. I'll look the marriage up tomorrow too.
