Help finding where my Hagan's are from in Ireland
All I know about my grandfather John William Hagan (my mother's dad)is that he is from Ireland (depending on the record you look at, he lists Dublin once and Belfast a few times). His dob May 17th 1891-97 (always different).
On their marriage certificate (May,17 1917; Newport RI, USA) it lists John William Hagan and Jennie Russell both from Ireland as his parents. They resided in or around Fall River, Bristol Co, Massachusetts throughout 1917-1940.
He left my grandmother and the family around 1941 while my Grandmother (Eliza [Elizabeth] Royds, dob 8/29/1900; Lowell MA, USA) was pregnant with her 16th child and they never heard from him again, although it is thought he may have started a new family up in Canada.
I have various records from Ancestry -
his WWI draft card (Dublin, Ireland, Great Britain),
WWI Attestation Papers from Canada (Belfast, Ireland),
his Border Crossing back to the US (Belfast, Ireland),
1920 US Census (Massachusetts)both parents from Ireland, 1930 US Census (Massachusetts)Father - Irish Free State, Mother - Scotland.
And lastly, on my grandmother’s Naturalization Records it had him coming into NY, NY, USA in 1908 from Belfast, Ireland.
{FYI-Even thou she was born in Massachusetts, on Sept 22, 1922 some idiotic US law said she was no longer a US citizen once she married my Alien Grandfather!! So she had to apply and go thru the whole process to be re-‘Naturalized” in 1939.}
I have been searching on a lot of genealogy sites and have had a membership with Ancestry a few times but no luck finding where in Ireland he is from.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Debbie Valentine
