Morning Patrick
You need to get more definite information on her age and by implication her Year of Birth, if you are to have a real chance of finding her correctly in the Scottish Records.
Assuming she was aged from 0 to 10 in the 1901 Census for Scotland, there are three suitable DoCherty and 1 Doherty, all Margaret, recorded in Greenock for the 1901 Census.

Details are-
Margaret DOCHERTY
Birth Date: 26 Feb 1901
Death Date: May 1970
Social Security Number:296-05-5281
State or Territory Where Number Was Issued:Ohio
Death Residence Localities
ZIP Code: 44505
Localities:Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio
However, I don't know whether that source lists by Maiden/Unmarried Last Name or by Married Name or Both.

If this is your MD, then she should appear in the 1901 Scottish Census above; and her Birth Record should be available on the same site.
There are two other Margarets on the FMP Migrations List, one of whom is a likely candidate.
However, you must establish some more solid information or clues from American source.
For example, if she did migrate before 1930, you should find her in the USA 1930 Census, which I believe is available over there under its 70 Year Rule.
It is 100 years over here, hence the 1901 is the most recent available, 1911 will be next year.
