Sorry I did not get back to you sooner Alex,
You were on the right track the first time I believe.
I used the first suggestion and found a map marker only.
It was in Ross, NE of Strathrannoch,
south of Carn Loch nan Amhaichean
closest modern edifice perhaps Inchbrae Inn?
I'm thinking there may have been a military road/post?
There is a dark spot on the aerial photo in the vicinity.
Rechecked the muster roll.
Robert Leslie is on the 1841 census as 62 years old
so birth circa 1779 +/- 1 year
wife Elisabeth Mitchel 66 years old on 1841 census
gave her address as Braeside in 1815 at Inveravon Banff.
So your help was greatly appreciated, and I have only
tried the first suggestion so far!
Thanks Alex - back to investigating!
Abi
