Morning Lainie

Scotland's People can be pernickety about spellings; and if you switch Soundex ON, you are then flooded.

A good way of getting some idea of the likely range of spellings to use on SP is to go to Family Search; and key in the names/s that you are trying to find, on separate Searches.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true

Leave it searching for variants by NOT ticking "*Use exact spelling".

Amazingly, the basic range of variants it uses was compile by a researcher in New York Central Library in 1929, long before computers as we know theem, existed.

Obviously there have now been additions tpo that list - but it is the foundation.

Alex
