I am wondering if these Mellis'(James and Janet) could be related to my Great Grandfather's wife, Jeanie Mellis, who married Erastus Holmes Spaulding, ca 1835, in the vicinity of Rochester, NY. She was born in Scotland. She was the mother of his daughter, Maria Holmes Spaulding, who was my Great Aunt and sister to my Great Grandfather. I would like to learn where and when Jeanie entered the US; where and when-or if-they were married, and what happened to her. My great grandfather, Wm Henry Spaulding was born to a different wife, Jane Leathe (also from Scotland),in 1844-also in Rochester.
