Schwerdtfeger name meaning
Posted by: R. M. Swerdfeger Date: November 18, 2001 at 10:04:57

Some time back I had posted an inquiry regarding the meaning of the name, and had responses, the summary of which would be that the name means generally a sword maker or a variation. I just discovered a book of my grandfather's, E. B. Swerdfeger, late of Denver, CO. that I had not seen before: "The Classic German Dictionary" Compiled from the Best Authorities of Both Languages, by Follett Publishing Co., Chicago, Ill., 1928. On page 427, it shows: 'Schwert, - - - --feger, m. sword-cutler'.
This agrees with the consensus of most of the others.
