My great grandmother Anna “Annie” Schwendeneck was born Sep 1867 in Herxheim bei Landau in the German state of Rhineland-Pfalz and was the seventh child of Daniel L. Schwendeneck and Maria “Eva” Flick. Annie arrived in Baltimore on Nov 6, 1871 with her mother, four sisters and three brothers on the ship “Ohio” out of Bremen. Her father was already waiting for his family in Kentucky, having concluded the same voyage on May 15, 1871.
Annie (one of twelve or, possibility, thirteen Schwendeneck children) married Frank Koehler whose brother August and his wife Minnie also resided in Mason County, KY. The Koehlers originated in Bingen am Rhine, Germany. Annie died a widow in 1938 and is buried in a plot she shares with sister Barbara in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. St. Patrick’s Church is located in Maysville, KY. Annie and Frank experienced nine live births:
Daniel M. Koehler was born Jan 1887 in Hamilton County, Cincinnati, OH, and married Ida Marie “Rea” MacIntosh. They produced one daughter, Catherine.
Henry John Koehler was born May 3, 1889 in Cincinnati, OH, and married Mary Pfeffer. They had five children: Elmer Koehler, John Henry Koehler, Ann Lawson, Frances Otis and Margaret “Mock” Reed.
Mary Clara (or Clare) and her fraternal twin, Louis, were both born October 16, 1891 in a Cincinnati hospital. Louis died at approx. 18 months. Mary Koehler married John Henry (Anthony) Schwartz and had six children: Henrietta Genevieve Hicinbotham, Selma Frances Weber, Charles Xavier Schwartz, Louis Joseph Schwartz, Mary Therese Wilkerson and Miss Catherine Elizabeth Schwartz.
August J. was born Aug 1894 in Mason County, KY, and married Ethelene Ryan. They had three children: Theresa Ann Gillian, August Koehler Jr. or “June,” and John Koehler.
Elsie Pauline was born Aug 1896 in KY and married Elmer Mineer. Their children included William Mineer, Rose Weil, Harry Mineer, Thelma Stillings, Clara Mack, Edward “Buddy” Mineer, and his fraternal twin Edna Lipscomb.
Philip was born Dec 1899 in KY and died before marrying.
Clara R. was born in 1902 in KY and died a single person.
Margaret or “Maggie” L., the baby of the family was born in 1904 in KY and married Edward Riley. Their children are Mary Ann Thompson, Edward Riley Jr. or “Buddy,” and Delores Riley.
