I've recently started researcing the Schwans/Schwanns in my family who settled in Kenosha, WI.The Patriarch was Mathias Schwann, b 9/9/1822 in Germany/Prussia, m in 1848 to Gertrude Fox (b. 10/11/1817 in Prussia), came to America in 1846 (not sure which port), lived for two years in Pittsburgh, then in 1848 settled in Somers, Kenosha (then called Racine County) where he bought a farm and stayed until he died.
I am curious about why your Schwan and my Schwan would stop in pittsurgh on their way west.Do you have any general knowledge of why that would be?
