Schuyler lore - story about a horse thief PA/NJ
Our family has a "legend" that we are related to General Philip Schuyler, in that one of HIS relatives was a horse thief. This thief came to PA in the 17 or 1800's.Some other parts of the family were ashamed & embarassed and therefore began pronoucing their surname "Shooler" instead of "Skyler", in order not to be associated with him.We have cousins that do pronounce their name "Shooler", but we don't.
Does this story sound familiar to anyone? If so, pls drop me a line. We are trying to trace back our line to the General, but no luck so far. Thanks, Christine
