Yes, I did have the wrong parents. Got mislead by the census, and I should know that there can be many mistakes in those. Thanks again for your help.

I found a record of a New York passenger list that might possibly be Jacob and Caroline.

It is very hard to read - It is listed as Jacob Schmuck, estimated b 1829, wife Caroline age 23 and Jacob 4 months.

They sailed from Le Harve, France, from Bavaria, on the Isaac Bell, arrived New York 17 Nov 1853. (which is a few years earlier that you stated, but it might be them. This was listed at Ancestry.com
