Edward John Schueler of Barrington A Mass for Edward John Schueler, 86, formerly of Maywood, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Anne Church, corner of Franklin and Ela streets., Barrington, where he will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. Born Oct. 27, 1919, in Melrose Park, he passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Mr. Schueler worked at the Hines Veterans Hospital for 21 years, retiring as fire chief. He was most proud of working at Hines as a volunteer, donating 17,907 hours during 33 years of service to the Department of Veteran Affairs. He served with distinction in World War II earning nine Bronze Battle Stars, one Purple Heart, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, the American Defense Service Medal with bronze clasp and numerous other military recognitions. He participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal, during which he was badly injured. He was past commander of Maywood American Legion Post 133 and Melrose Park VFW Winfield Scott Post 2193. He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Sedgwick); loving father of Elizabeth (Karl) Klukas, Susan Schueler, Katherine (Jack) Escherich, Amy (the late David) Beuder and the late Edward J. Schueler Jr.; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth and Kyle Klukas, Dominic (Jeanne) Serpico Jr., Joshua and Hannah Ritchie, Deborah (Matt) Huseby, John (Renee) Escherich, Raymond and David Schueler, and the late David Serpico; proud great-grandfather of Blakelynn Escherich, Natalya and Nicholas Klukas, and Sabrina Serpico; dear brother of William (Lenore) Schueler and Robert (Mary) Schueler; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Hines Veterans Hospital, Department of Veteran Affairs, P.O. Box 5000, Hines, IL 60141. For information, 847-381-3411.
