I am looking for information on our grandparents Samuel Schroyer and Bessie Fritts Schroyer . Samuel was born March 3, 1873, where is unknown, and died Oct. 30, 1953, St. Louis. No parents can be found for Samuel nor siblings or any other relative other than his family in St. Louis. Bessie was born in 1886, Crittenden, Ky. and died July, 24, 1970, St, Louis. Samuel's believed to have been born in Huntington, In. but this is not known for sure. Where he spent his childhood is unknown at this time. Some thought is that he might have been in Shumway, Il. as a child but this has not been proven. Bessie's parents were Phillip W. Fritts and Modenia LaRue (Matthews) Fritts from Crittenden, Ky.( our gr-grandparents). Phillip W. Fritts died and is buried in Crittenden. Modenia must have come to St. Louis to be with her family, who had since settled here, after the death of her husband. Sam and Bessie married June 12, 1905 in Pope Co., Il. and made their way to Shumway, Il. where my father, John Homer Schroyer, was born in 1906. He married Wynona Madeline Smth/Schroyer/Mikulus sometime in the early 1940's in St. Louis and had nine children. Samuel and Bessie (Fritts) Schroyer eventually made their way to St. Louis, Mo. Along the way Grandma gave birth to two more sons, Mearl Schroyer and Leslie (Les) Schroyer ( our uncles) and after her divorce from Samuel Schroyer and re-marriage to Walter Taylor, a daughter, Dorothy ( our aunt). If anyone has any information on Samuel D. Schroyer or Bessie E. Fritts/Schroyer/Taylor I would love to hear from you. It has been a long search for Samuel Schroyer's heritage, hitting one brick wall after another . Thank you and appreciation in advance for any info you may have to share.
