I have been reasearching my Scouten lineage for some time now. Have found proof of my great aunt Mary Scouten to have been born on the Onondaga Indian Reservation in 1901. Other siblings, but not all, were born there. Have proof of four of them being committed to the Cortland Children's Home in 1910. Edward,Charles, and Harry, also Mary. Another sibling,Harvey, was born in 1882-3. He may have been taken in at some point by a white family and worked on their farm, there is also a possibility that as a yound boy, he was sent to the George Junior Republic School. His brother Benjamin Robert, the same. Viola Chapin is listed as Grandma Ruth's mother on her SSI app. I need proof of parentage for the other four. Expensive, huh? Also, these kids were conveniently listed as white, once they were gone from the reservation. Help is welcome. The father,Benjamin, was born in 1857 (where?) He died after 1930 in Cortland or Homer,NY in a nursing home. He married Nellie E. Millard Henry in 1922, and she died in 1929. I have a street address for them:24 Sampson St.,Cortland. Other children of Benjamin and Viola were Mabel. There are more.
