I am not at all certain that this is the right person but definitely worth exploring.
I am so happy to possibly have a lead on this family. I hope it is the correct link and appreciate your quick response & assistance! Thanks!
This is what I have.
Birdie Love Brownb. 16 April 1906d. 12 Apr 1990
According to her obituary, Birdie Love Brown was born in 1906 in Nind, MO (Adair County) to Edwin & Margaret Schooling Brown. The obit also says birdie was survived by her sister, Blanche Keltz.
I have not been able to find a birth record for Birdie or find her name on any 1910 census. I did find her with another family on the 1920 census with Robert & Elva Love and as her relationship to the head of household she is listed as "adopted".
1920 > Missouri > Adair > Walnut > District 22 > 17
This leads me to believe that Birdie's parent/parents had died prior to 1920. This corresponds to the Funeral card I have for Margaret (see below). Perhaps Marg & Edwin died from the flu epidemic.
I did find a 1910 census page for a Maggie L Brown age 55, married 38 years with a daughter (looks to be) Mitta or Milla age 28 (would correspond with your name of Mattie). The marriage seems to correspond to the info you have as well.
1910 > Missouri > Adair > Walnut > District 22 > 6
This census lists "Maggie L" as the mother of 6 children, 4 living. With the youngest listed with the name "Baby". I think that could have actually been "Birdie".Now, I do find it curious that Margaret would have been 50 years old when she had "Baby"/Birdie.I know it's not unheard of but that is past normal child bearing years. Edwin is in the household but listed on the previous page of the 1910 census on the last line.
This 1910 census lists Maggie/Margaret as born in MO, he father born in MO & her mother born in KY.Does this jive with the birth locations you have for Joseph & Sarah?
There had been a story in my husbands family that the woman who was Birdie's "mother" was actually her grandmother & that Birdie was actually born to a woman (Mattie/Mittie?))and Birdie was raised as her sister, rather than daughter. (perhaps an out of wedlock pregnancy). But I doubt that we will ever be able to find any evidence of this so I go with the assumption that Margaret was actually Bridie's mother as there is still the same blood line.
In some family photos I found what looks to be a funeral card for "Margaret Brown, died May 27th, 1918" This was actually my first clue until today when I found Birdie's obit to confirm her mother's name.
Any insight or connection you may have would be very much appreciated.Do you think these are the same people?Several things line up but I would sure like to find something more concrete.Maybe by putting our heads together we can figure something out.
I look forward to hearing from you.
