Hello Claire, From your message it is unclear if you have carried out any research before or whether you are new to this exciting pursuit. If you are just starting out and looking for your ancestors then the best place to start is with your own birth certificate, your parents and grandparents certificates for births, marriages and deaths. Also if you have any living grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. then talk to them, and get their recollections. Ask about names, nicknames, addresses and occupations. Where people lived. Write it all down - Who said what and when. Double check with other relatives to see if they recall the same or a slightly different version. It's fun and adds to your family history more than just a collection of names and dates. The smallest piece of information may seem irrelevant at the time but can prove to be invaluable later. Once you have gathered some information on dates and locations for your grandparents you should then return to this group to post the details and ask if your grandparents connect with anyone else. Good luck with your research and if you need more help or advice there are may on this group only to pleased to share their experiences and knowledge with you. Stephen
