My ancestor is Benjamin Schofield, born @1816 and lived in Oldham after his marriage in 1835 to Sarah Ashton. On the census returns he is a mechanic. They had sons William, James, Samuel and Joshua and one daughter Sarah. Benjamin died in 1851.
I have had no luck tracing his parents, but have now decided it was either a James or Miles, Benjamin being born in Mossley.
The name Schofield changed to Scholefield I think at the time of my Grandfathers birth or marriage. @ 1870.
