Looking for info on the parents of Wilhelmus Shoff b. 1756 d. after 1845 in Allegany Co. According to his will he is the son of Jacob Shoff, "late of the town of Franken about
6 miles from the city of Callen (Callere?) in the province of Patty (Pattz?) Germany." (handwriting is a little difficult to read) In the will he leaves his property which "principally consists of the portion left to me by my father Jacob Shoff"
We don't know if this Jacob ever came to the U.S. or if he died in Germany. Oral history in our family says that someone in the family never received their inheritance because they took the "c" out of the name Schoff. Our Wilhelmus shows up in the 1820 census in Tioga Co and it appears all nine of his children were born in NY state.
