I checked the Social Security Death Index (http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm) and found a Floyd Schoff, 480-30-8273, b. 21 July 1932, d. Aug 1985. His social security card was issued in Iowa and his last residence was Chicago. Does this information fit with where your family is from? There was no one at all listed in the SSDI with the last name of Schnoff and the only Floyd Shoff (my family name) was born too early to be your Floyd.
