Looking for Descendants of Schneider / Oehlberg of Chicago, IL
Posted by: Jennifer Oneske (ID *****3542) Date: November 18, 2008 at 08:27:55
  of 2973

I am looking for any descendants of Casper Schneider (1881-1941) and Marie Elizabeth Oehlberg (1884-1963) Schneider of Kildare Avenue and later South Austin Boulevard, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

They had 10 children:

-David Schneider (1904-1978, married to Dora Brunke)

-Henry "Hank" Schneider (married to Florence)

-Frederick Schneider (married to Caroline, had a son Thomas and daughter Phyllis)

-Katherine Schneider Luth (1916-1990, married to Walter "Wally" Luth, had a daughter)

-Wilma Schneider Oneske (1926-present, married Charles Oneske, had a daughter Donna Marie and son Dana Charles)

-Emily Schneider Wildkatsch (married Al Wildkatsch, had a daughter Kathleen)

-Elizabeth "Betty" Schneider Hallof (married Joseph Hallof)

-Marie Schneider Monroe (died young of breast cancer, married John Monroe, had a son and a daughter Sandra)

-Doris Schneider Pressney (married Raymond Pressney, had a son Gary and a daughter Rae Sharmine)

-Dorothy Schneider Sweeney (married Robert Sweeney, had two boys, a daughter Karen, and another daughter)

-Other children, but deceased in infancy

Casper Schneider had a brother Fred Schneider. Marie Elizabeth Oelberg had a brother, either Samuel Oelberg or Gottlieb Oelberg (obituary says Gottlieb, grandmother thinks Samuel). Both are believed to be of German descent. They settled in Chicago, IL. My grandmother Wilma, the youngest of the 10, thinks an older brother or sister was born in Germany and then her parents moved to Chicago. Many of their children had different baptized names (for example my grandmother Wilma was called "Elma" by her father) as their father Casper was hard of hearing, so the names I have listed might not be what they were best known by. Casper and Marie Elizabeth are believed to be buried in St. Lucas Cemetery (Lutheran) and son David is believed to be in Concordia Cemetery (Lutheran); all others are unknown.

Many different spellings and variations have come up - Kasper with a K (per birth certificate), Elizabeth Marie instead of Marie Elizabeth (per obit), Oehlberg (per birth certificate) versus Oelberg (per obit), Gottileb instead of Gottlieb (per Marie's obit).

If you are related to any of these people or have information on them, please contact me at You have family! I am the daughter of Dana Charles Oneske, son of Wilma Schneider Oneske, still living in Rochester, NY.
