A biography of William S. Schneider is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2, page 972.
William was born, 16 Oct 1875, son of Fred and Kate (Vogelsang) Schneider. In 1879 the familiy moved to New Richland, MN. They had two sons and six daughters.
William was educated in Minnesota. In 1900 he moved to Saco, MT, where he worked as a sheepherder. After a few weeks, he joined F.W. Korman in purchasing land near Saco and engaged in cattle ranching. Due to the hard winters, they lost their capital, dissolved the partnership, and William went to work for the Saco Mercantile Company, until 1909 when he became cashier of the bank at Saco. He was elected to the office of Clerk and Recorder for Phillips County in 1915, and re-elected in 1916 and 1918.
On 29 Jun 1908, Saco, MT, William Schneider married Miss Margaret Shanks, born 23 Aug 1889, Comber, Ontario, daughter of R.J. and Mary (Sellers) Shanks, residents of Detroit, MI.
Schneider son: Richard George Schneider.
