Subject-Martin Luther Snyder, of Phila. was born in Northampton Co, July 2, 1850, s/o John H. and Anna (Groover), but of whom were born in Bucks Co.
Andreas Von Schneider, or as he signed himself, Andreas Schneider, the great grandfather of Martin Luther, was born 1739 in Zweybrucken or Deux Ponts, Rhenish Bavaria. He sold himself to a Capt of a sailing ship bound for Phila and landed in the port of Phila about 1759. He was a member of the first Associated Company of Richland twp during the Rev. He spoke French fluently, and while living in Germantown he was referred to as the Frenchman. He died on his farm in Richland in 1816. He married in 1765 to Margaret Jacobi, whose parents were early settlers of Bucks Co. Children, Frederick, married a Miss Eckhart and they had 7 children; Elizabeth married Stephen Knizeley and they had 5 children; Catharine married Isaac Bean and they had 5 children; Andrew Jr., married Mary Mickley and they had 5 children; Margaret, marrried John Weisel and they had 10 children; Magd., married Jacob Bean, Henry married a Miss Messimer and they had 1 child; George married Mary Mickley and they had 10 children, John married Elizabeth Hinkle and they had 11 children, Mary married Philip Rumbfield and they had 4 children; Susanna never married.
John Snyder, 7th child of Andreas and Margaret (Jacobi) was born and reared in Richland, he died about 1844. He married Elizabeth Hinkle, d/o John Hinkle, who owned and occupied a farm adjoining the Andreas Snyder. Children, William H., married Catharine Heist and died before his father leaving 2 children, Charles and William; John H., father of Martin Luther, who married Anna Groover; Tobias, died unmarried; Lydia died young, Sarah, died unmarried; Amos H. married Mary Blanik, Andrew unmarried; Caroline who married George Brong; Thomas H., married Sarah Erdman, Catharine married Samuel Cressman and Joseph never married.
Snyder, Henry H., subject, of Hilltown, was born Dec 10, 1842 on the farm upon which he still resides and which has been the property of his direct ancestors for over a century having been purchased by Jacob Schneider, June 6, 1796. The Snyder family (orginially spelled Schneider). The pioneer ancestor of this branch of the family was Michael Schneider, probably a native of Germany and certainly of German parentage, who with sons Jacob, Michael, Conrad and Christian and daughter Hanna wo Frederich Shull, Catharine, w/o Jacob High of Hilltown and Rebecca. Michael Snyder died in Hilltown in 1806, he devised his plantation to his son Conrad, the great grandfather of Henry H. Michael Jr. died in 1822 and devised his farm to his brother Conrad.
Jacob Schneider, grandfather, was the son of Conrad and Catharine, and was born in Hilltown about 1777. He married Elizabeth Yost. Children; George, Michael, who married 1st to Mary Rosenberger, 2nd to Elizabeth Rosenberger, Enos, Elias, Christian, Catharine married John L. Shellenberger, Hannah unmarried, Lydia married Jacob Savacool; Amelia married Levi Sellers, and Elizabeth married Charles Eckhardt.
George Snyder, eldest son of Jacob and Elizabeth was born in Hilltown. He married 4 times, 1st 1824 to Mary Wittig, and they had children; Francis, Jacob B., Ephraunm /sarah Anna and Mary. He married 2nd Lydia Hartzell and they had 1 child, Henry H, he married 3rd to Elizabeth Martin, and 4th to Caroline Woodring, who was born April 14, 1814, they had no children.
Henry H., born Dec 10, 1842, married Nov 1865 to Amanda R. Reiff, d/o Abraham and Sarah (Reiff) Reiff. Children, Elmer R., Sallie E., and Anna Mary
Elmer R., born Aug 21, 1866, grad. of UofP.. He died Marh 16, 1868.
Sallie E., born NOv 19, 1867, married June 12, 1894 to Rev. Charles C. Snyder (s/o Simon and Lydia),
Anna Maria, born Nov 3, 1870 married Nov 21, 1893 to Rev William O. Fegely. Children, Bryon Snyder, Grace Amanda, Alma M. and Florence E.
