There was a large Jewish SCHNAPPER family in Frankfurt in the 1700s. According to Deitz, who wrote on the community in Frankfurt, the surname SCHNAPPER does not turn-up as such in records until the 1790s. However, there is a marriage record from 1744 in Obernai (marriage actually registered there, but occurred in Offenbach, near Frankfut) which aparrently states Zipper Schnapper, daughter of Moise Bernhardt Schnapper married Jakob Weil, son of Feissel Weil of Westhoffen.
I am looking to link Moise Bernhardt Schnapper to the other SCHNAPPERS in Frankfurt. The Deitz book does not have a listing for any Moise Bernhardt Schnapper. I think it is likely that he also went by the name Moise Bernhardt, and that his father was Bernhardt Schnapper -- perhaps even Bernhardt Moise. However, there are no Bernhardts appearing anywhere in the Schnapper material I have seen relating to Frankfurt.
Is there a chance that BENDIKT = BERNHARDT? If so, there may be a link already established. Any thoughts?
