I am researching the LONGMAN family of Maryland, descendants of the Hessian conscript, John LANGMANN, who settled there in 1783 at the end of the Revolutionary War. Many of his nine children's families removed to the Ohio/Illinois/Iowa region in the mid 1800's.

I have a John SMICE, born 16 Feb 1837 in Maryland, who moved to Ogle County, IL. John married Sarah LAWVER in 1859; their daughter Leathe, born 1873, married Jacob O. LONGMAN in 1888. If this is the line you are interested in, post a reply and we can exchange family information.

Richard (a Marylander in New Jersey, and a 4th great-grandson of the old soldier)
