Mary
I have looked through my mother's Schmalenberger book and cannot find a Catherine Smallenberget who married a Wetzel. The book I have starts with Johann Jakob Schmalenberger, b. Schmalenberg Pfalz, Germany 3/19/1766 married to Maria Margaretta Dietz. They migrated to the U.S. in 1834 with their 2 grown sons, Johann Nikolous b. 12/8/1799 and Johann Jakob b. June 1803.
The book follows the descedants of Johann Nikolous and his wife Anna Margaretta Gilcher b. 8/15/1801 and their 5 children (all born in Schrollbach Pfalz, Germany): Phillipina, Johann, Catharina, Daniel A., and Carolina.Johann Nikolous Schmalenberger and his family sailed from LeHavre, France on the ship Ruthella and landed in New Oreleans on 11/17/1834.They settled in Millstadt (originally named Saxtown), Illinois.Anna Margaretta died early and Johann Nikolous remarried. His 2nd wife was Maria Katherine Pfeifer nee Ebersohl on 7/17/1835 and they had another child, Maria Louisa Schmelenberger b 12/25/1839.
A 5th cousin has found me and I have sent him information. So they site does work.
