Hi Philip,
I believe I said in my first posting that a friend of my daughter's moved into the small carriage house behind the big main Huff house. On the small carriage house is a plaque that reads:
Historical Landmark Award, The Huff Carriage House, later known as the "Creamery" 1884.
She also says there is a plaque on the main house but she didn't go into someone else's yard to read it.
My daughter called her friend to ask her if there was any name up close to the roof. She said no, so I suspect that the brick building downtown with the lettering may have been in a later year. This was a home rather than a commercial building. My daughter said she thought she seen, somewhere in her searching, that a Schlosser married a Huff somewhere in the family. Seems I read in the history that the first production was on a corner of the Jacob Schlosser farm and later a stand was opened in Bremen. Maybe that first stand was the carriage house. I may be wrong, but you would know that. The address of the carriage house is 104 N. Huff St. Bremen. The main house faces another street. She says also that the property is up for sale.
I know you have family in this area, but if you would like, we can take some pictures and send them to you in email, if you wouldn't mind giving me your email address. Mine is [email protected] me know. You have me curious, I just may have to go to Bremen and find that lettered building...lol Maybe take a trip to the cemetery as well. We live very close. I live with my daughter and son-in-law in the small community of Wakarusa, IN.
Thanks,
Sierra
