According to my family records,Joseph Antoine Schlosser married Eve Knaub and had two children: Franz (or Francois) Joseph born May 4, 1832 in Mothern, France, and Valentine born Feb 14, 1835 in Alsace-Lorraine, Wissenbourg. Franz Joseph is my Great-grandfather.

In 1860 the U.S. Census lists Valentine Schlosser as living with his brother Francois Joseph in Covington, Kentucky (my home town). The Civil War started early in 1861 and Valentine volunteered in the Union Army, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He lost his arm in the war, and soon thereafter moved to Traverse City, Michigan, where he had a government land grant because of his service in the army.

Valentine had married Mary Prosek Oct 22, 1838 in Bohemia, near Prague and had children Edwin Benard and William.
