My grandmother was Edna Mae Lawder (born Edna Mae Schleicher in 1903, d. 1977).I was told by my father that her father owned a piano company in New York -the famous "Schleicher and Sons Piano Company" that went out of business a long time ago. That and they were very fine instruments is all I ever knew. To this day I have never seen a Scheicher piano anywhere.
My grandmother was a very classy woman with blonde hair and blue eyes and was a wonderful grandmother to me.Very pretty also.Lived in Scarsdale. She had two brothers, my "Uncle" Walter and "Uncle" Erwin. They were very nice -never forgot my birthday. They passed away in the '70's also I believe. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? Her birthday was June 7th if I remember right. She had the funniest laugh. They were a first-rate group of people. Was a little surprised that she was not here when I searched.
This was great to learn. I will be seeing my parents soon and will show them your paragraph on the company.Thank you.
