I also have a Scherf on my family tree but don't have much info at all. My grandmother's father was Harry A. Scherf, a clerk residing in New York at the time of her birth. He is listed on her birth certificate but we have no further information on him. My grandmother (born Pearl F. Scherf) was born in 1911 and at the time Harry was listed as being 22 years old - that being the case he would have been born in 1888 or 1889. It also states that he was born in Baltimore. My grandmother was adopted by the man I knew as my great-grandfather around 1912 and her name was changed to Blanche Almira McCaffrey. I have hit a dead end on this line and any help would be greatly appreciated.
