I am helping a family friend with his genealogy and he has some Schenk's who lived in the Bay Area.

His great great grandfather was Joseph Schenk and he married Catherine Markley. He was born March of 1836
in Germany and she was born August 1843 in Iowa. Together they had 14 children and as yet I have not found all of them. According to census information Joseph and Catherine would have married in about 1864. He came to America in 1853 I believe. I have not found them on the 1870 census but did find them on the 1900 census and after. The children I am aware of were as follows:

Joseph A. Schenk born July 8, 1871 in Ca. (not proven as son but his children are in the family photo album)
Carolyn Schenk (also in the family photo album but not proven as daughter)
Mary V. Schenk born December 1880 and married William Minto. She died in 1919 in S. F. County.
Irene Ethel Schenk born January 6, 1883. She married Charles Gee and they are in family photo album.
Leland S. Schenk born March 1887, no other info on him but he was listed on census with other family.

According to the 1910 Census Joseph & Catherine Schenk were married for 46 years and had 14 children.
The 1900 Census listen them with 10 children.

Ask your family if any of these names sound familiar. I have been working with our friend Steve for the past two or three months on his family tree and would be glad to pass any information on to you if you believe you are related
to his Schenk side of his family tree.
