Hi,
It sounds like you are descendant from John Schell, the brother of John Christian Schell (of the battle of Schells Bush Fame). The 4 surviving sons of John Christian (John Christian Jr, Frederick, Henry (twin) and Mark (twin). Denis was killed one year after the battle during a sneak attack/raid by the British & Indians where John Christian Sr was also killed) all migrated to Upper Canada (The Markham Ontario area) where they each were granted 400 acres of farmland. The male children of John were Christian, Mark, John, Peter. Christian's male children were Henry, b Sept 9, 1791, Johannes b Dec 29, 1794, Moises, b June 21, 1805 and John. Mark's male children were Johannes b Oct 29, 1789, Jacob b before 1800 & Mark b 1804. John's male children were John b Jan 31, 1795, Peter b Apr 9 1798, Jacob b 1800, Mark b June 12, 1801, John b feb 20, 1808, Adam b jan 8, 1809. Peter's one male male child was Peter b Nov 2, 1792.) ,These 4 male children of John all seemed to remain in the Herkimer area, although some may have migrated to Michigan around 1840-50, perhaps to join Mark the twin moved there in 1842 after his wife died in Markham. Mark the twin was joined in Michigan by 2 of his sons and some nephews and nieces. I am descendent from Mark the Twin through one of his sons Mark Jr who stayed in Canada then Alonzo Schell, both of whom farmed the family farm at Uxbridge, near Markham, then Joseph Edgar Schell then Joseph McLure Schell then me and my two brothers.
I believe the text you are quoting is from the Denissen Pamphlet on John Christian Schell and the battle of Schell's Bush, of which I am fortunate enough to have acquired a copy. If it is not the Denissen Pamphlet, of if there is other information, then I would appreciate a copy. J. P. Schell, 90 Elgin Avenue, Pointe Claire, QC, H9R 2K2, Canada.
