Christoffel Zehrung and Anna Habel each died during the first six months of 1714, leaving six minor children. A twelve page document found in the Archives at Wiesbaden was executed in Ritzhausen on June 26 1714. it lists the movable property that Christoffel owned and reports that the children were taken in by their closest relatives. Anna is not mentioned by name. The document simply states that Christoffel and wife died. Some of the children are named and others are not. " The guardian Bastian Hobel took the the littlest one who is under six months"This child must have been Johann Bast. Martin Schmitt took his godchild Elsa Maria, who was eight. Christian Hobel took Anna Elizabeth, age four. Johannes Reusch took Johannes. " The oldest boy Johann Christ is going to the farm that John Thonges keeps." From the church records, the oldest son is listed as Johann Tonges, but since there was a second Johann Tonges the older one must have died. The document mentions the oldest girl, presumably Anna Maria, but breaks off without giving her name or who took care of her. ess than the appraised value of the estate. Sources: EM- Daniel Bly. Wiesbaden Archives- Translation Christoffel had six cows and one cow went with each child. The items in the estate include the usual things one would expect to find on a farm: pots and pans, hoes, hay forks, shovels, milking stools, spinning wheels, hammers, drills, saws, chisels, horse shoes, and tools for shoeing horses, wooden plates and bowls, pitchers, a plough, a Bible, oil lamps, a beer cask, flax, and yarn, woven fabric to be given to the children for clothes, a variety of fruits given to the children, a cow hide at the tanner to made into shoes for the children. All of these items, except the things given to the children, were appraised but nothing is said about what was done. There were also debts to be paid but they were all paid. To All who may be interested: Our Anna Elizabeth was one of these children. She married John Christ Schell. This came from a researcher of Zuhrungs. He has hired geneoalogists in Germany and knows a lot about the Schells in Germany but his interest is Zehrungs. His info is so massive that his head swims and has to take breaks from it all. He has been so kind as to send me a lot of info straight from Germany and then refered me to the geneoalogist and interpreter which I have since lost in all my files.
