Hi,
I find this rather interesting.I akso have a George Washington Schell who was also born in 1858. From what you say they are not the same, but the GW name and 1858 birth year is a very ubusual coincidence.
My G W Schell b 1858 in Protown tsp, Ontario, d Oct 30, 1918 in Whitechurch tsp, Ontatio. He m Mary Black Nov 20 1883 in Flesherton, Ont. She b 1860 in Ontario. Their children:-
1. Virena Maud b Mar 3, 1885 in Proton tsp, Ont, D 24 may 1955 on Proton tsp.
2. Agnes Elizabeth b 9 Jan 1887, d July 30, 1980
3. Annie Alma b 15 Apr 1889, d 19 Dec 1979
4. Wmma Beatrice b 9 Mar 1891 d 14 Sept 1965 in proton tsp
5. Jean may b 11 Nov 1893 in Proton tsp, d 18 Apr 1967
6. Wilmot George b 16 Sept 1896 d 8 July 1937, construction accident
7. Esther Victoris b abt 1898, d in markham Tsp, Ont.
My George Washington Schell's father was Phillip S Schell, son of Paul Schell, son of John Christian Schell, son of Johann Christian Schell. JC Schell is the JC Schell of the 1781 Battle of Shells Bush fame near Herkimer NY.
I suspect your George Washington Schell might have descended from a Casper Schell who migrated to the New World about the same time my Johann Christian Schell did. He first settled in Pennsylvania and his descendants seemed to congregate in the lower half of the US rather than the northern half as did the descendants of JC Schell.
