Jacob Schell (of OH, IN, and KS) ancestry info desired

I need to find info concerning line of Shells (Schells) which seems to be an old offshoot from the those queried in this forum. My great grandfather was George Washington Schell (b.1858 in IN, d.1940 in NE). He seems to have dropped the "c" in his name shortly before marrying Clara Belle Rand in 1885 in MO. His father was Jacob Schell (b.1821 in OH, d.1872 in KS) who married a woman named Anna and served and survived three years of the Civil War with the Indiana Volunteers. I have no info concerning this Jacob's ancestry. Any help is greatly appreciated.
