I was confused (not unusual) and had to call my Mom to get sorted out. I was wrong on some connections. I was mixing up Asbury and Hardy Schell. Asbury and Jody were my Grandma's cousins, not her Dad's. Hardy was her uncle, so the Joseph Elmer you listed was my Great Grandfather. My Grandma is Lena Josephine Schell (now Riggs), born in 1921. She was the fourth child of eight (2 did not survive infancy).
Mom also corrected me on a couple of other issues. Asbury was the one who owned the Palace, and she was not sure who had worked at the Grand Canyon. The Aunt Bessie I remembered hearing about was on the other side of the family. Mom remembers hearing about but never meeting a Grandma Murratt. Grandma has mentioned her Aunt Evvie (Evelyn), Hardy's first wife.
I did find a site you might be interested in. It is genealogy.az.gov. It has PDF copies of original birth and death certificates. There were a couple in there for children of Hardy and Asbury Schell. The births are 75 years old or more and the deaths are 50 or more. Some are not in there, like my Grandma and some of her siblings.
I'm curious about Joseph Elmer's place and year of birth. The three birth certificates I found for his children would put him born in 1880/81 based on his listed ages, and he stated in all three that he was born in AZ. However, Grandma said he was always enigmatic about his age, so who knows?
I should see Grandma next week, and I'll ask for more history. I'll take notes this time, so I don't get mixed up. Thank you for the info, and if you want anything further about this side, let me know.
