Barbara,

My Great Grandfather was Joseph Elmer Schell, born on the Gila River in Arizona in 1876-81, depending on who you ask. His father had immigrated from Germany through PA in the 1870's. Joseph had two cousins, Hardy and Jody (Joseph?) Schell. I have heard my Grandma mention an Aunt Bessie Murratt (sp?), as well. Based on the population of AZ at that time, there is a pretty good chance they are related.

From what my Grandma has told me about Hardy, he cowboyed around AZ, including the Black Canyon City area with my Great Grandfather. He also worked on mule trains into the Grand Canyon and possibly owned the Palace Saloon in Prescott for a while in the fifties or sixties. If I recall, he died in the Pioneer Home in Prescott and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetary off of Iron Springs Road in Prescott.

I don't recall anything about a Maggie or Margaret. I will check with my Grandma and see what else she remembers. I don't have much in the way of documentary stuff at this point-just starting out. If you come across anything regarding Joseph Elmer Schell in your search, please let me know.
