John Peter (born in Prussia) was Jacob's father (Jacob was the oldest son, born in 1858 in Wisconsin). Don't know Jacob's middle name but from my notes I see that Jacob's oldest son was Otto Jacob (so he is following in the "first name goes to first son as second name" tradition). That might mean Jacob's full name could be Peter Jacob or Jacob Peter and maybe he was also called Peter. Which might mean some of those "right name wrong birth date" references I've found might actually be the right guy after all. I'm pretty sure I found a Peter with some of the children with Jacob's children's names but living up in Wisconsin where Jacob was born - but I assumed it was another family. Might be Peter before he moved to Ohio. Back to the old notes!
For misc info (from my notes) in case someone might recognize something familiar:
In the 1880 census, at age 22, Jacob is shown residing with his parents but in prison.Which is a real surprise to his loving grandaughter (my mom) who swears it could not possibly be true.
And from my cousin Ronald Tutas’ "Scheidt (or Scheid) Family Geneology":
Jacob Scheidt spoke High German and was a Republican, tall and somewhat dark complected, and he was raised a Catholic.Anna (Becker) Scheidt spoke Low German and was a Democrat, short and light complected, and was raised as a Protestant.Jacob was said to be somewhat of a dreamer, while Anna was said to be a practical type of a person.
Jacob Scheidt worked at several jobs at a number of locations in the Butler County, Ohio area.He worked as an ice cutter in Woodsdale, and also as quarried stone for shipment by canal boat. While living in Woodsdale, Jacob operated a road grader for a time, and worked as a machine hand in Hamilton.Jacob and Anna Scheidt changed family residences often.Locations of residence are thought to include Trenton, Woodsdale, possibly Rockdale, Monroe, Hamilton (at 302 North Fourth Street, 720 South Monument Avenue, and 1135 Heaton Alley), and Williamsdale, Ohio (at 2097 Caldwell Street).
In his later years, Jacob lost both legs due to hardening of the arteries and used a wheelchair.
