Actually, I have his Invalid claim for pension. They misspelled his name-had him listed as Schaffler, and he did not try to change it. The name is really Scheffler. He fell through a railroad trestle, and was injured. It also states that he "suffers from deafness caused by exposure of sleeping on the ground while in the line of duty. It also states that he is 3/4 disabled, but has never received a pension. I haven't followed up any more as yet. He died in the old soldiers home in Adams CO IL.
