The name is too similar to pass up. I have Rene Eugene Scheffer, born 1878 in MN. The 1880 census listed him as a 2 year old boarder with the PLANTE family of Canada. Rene's unknown parents were born in Canada. Rene was in White Bear, Ramsey Co., MN. There's a possibility Julie Plante was a former SCHEFFER.
Rene moved to Des Moines at some time. I've not searched for him on the 1900 census, but he married Blanche Agnes Mathias sometime prior to his first child's birth in Des Moines in 1914 and died sometime between the birth of his second/last child, Eugene Rene, born 1917, and the 1920 census when Blanche was listed as a widow.
I'm very interested in finding more on Rene.
