Hi, Janet,
Most of the family was Mennonite, based on what I've been able to find. Some branches eventually became Reformed or Brethern. My ggrandfather, Joseph Sherer, was born a Mennonite, but I've found a baptismal certificate from the Reformed Church for his wife, and one of my father's cousins married a Reformed minister.
I have a couple of histories of Henry's family: "The Share Grist Mills in Pennsylvania" by John Share Jr, and "The Ephraim Franklin Share and Lydia Ellen (Hoerner) Share Family" by Jerry Share. They detail your line pretty well.
My line comes from Henry's older brother, John. When Ulrich Scherr died in 1777, John bought out his siblings ran the Conewago mill with his mother. When he died, his son Ulrich Share bought out the other heirs and took control of the mill; Henry later tried to bail him out, but eventually he went broke and lost control of the property. Ulrich Share's brother John bought a farm in Mt. Joy Twp, right across the county line. I'm descended from John's youngest son, Christian, who died at age 29 in 1853.
When I was in Pennsylvania in June, I took photos of the mill and Ulrich's and Barbara's tombstones, which I'd be happy to share. Write me directly at [email protected] .
Richard
